General
PACE is the manufacturer and developer of the iLok 3, a USB dongle on which purchased software licenses can be stored and used via the iLok License Manager. This reliable system was designed to prevent the act of downloading software illegally, better known as piracy. Compared to its predecessor, the iLok 2, this iLok 3 is more compact and faster. It has a sturdy metal housing, and can hold 1,500 licenses instead of its predecessor's 500 . The iLok 3 replaces the iLok 2, the latter is no longer supplied or supported.

Tja het lijkt een extra "hobbel" maar deze dongle zoirgt er wel voor dat je overal je software (ook bij een klant) kunt gebruiken, zonder gevaar voor kopieren of software diefstal (=prijsverhogend). En fijn dat de nieuwe uitvoering van metaal is. Slechts 1 wens, laat steinbeurg stoppen met hun e-licenser en inhaken op ilok (idem Avolites enz.).

Ben geen fan van usb-dongles. Het voelt toch als een stap terug t.o.v. de cloud oplossing van iLok en het kost je een usb-poort. Maar voor sommige producten (zoals de Antelope Edge Duo mic) heb je toch nog echt een dongle nodig, dik minpunt. De iLok dongle is eenvoudig en makkelijk in gebruik, het werkt simpel en straightforward. Weinig negatiefs te melden over de usb-dongle. Ook het koppelen van de dongle aan de software is een makkie.

Na lang weerstand te hebben geboden tegen USB dongles toch moeten buigen omdat Izotope alleen via de dongle geregistreerd kan worden.
Dongle zelf is klein en voelt zeer degelijk. Klein blauw ledje is niet storend fel. Passen meer licenses op dan je waarschijnlijk ooit nodig zal hebben.
En hoe zwaar het me ook valt ik moet toegeven dat het wel gewoon werkt. Even via de manager je licenses op de dongle zetten en het is plug and play.
4 sterren omdat ik de prijs nog steeds erg fors vind.

Ilok werkt snel en betrouwbaar, de USB key is voor sommige plugins de enige manier om te registreren, maar ik gebruik hem voor al mijn licenties, zo kan ik mijn plugins ook snel op een ander systeem gebruiken indien nodig.
