In order to design the best-sounding wah-wah pedal possible, Dunlop collaborated with Bob Bradshaw from Custom Audio Electronics - designer of custom pedal boards and effect systems for numerous famous rock guitarists. The brain child of this extraordinary pairing is the MC404 CAE, a wah pedal made of first-class components. As such, this pedal features two legendary Fasel inductors - each with their own sound and adjustable Q filters. The pedal also has a built-in boost function for extra flexibility. The MC404 CAE offers you the best performance and quality that you know to expect from Dunlop, the world leader in wah-wah technology.
MC404 CAE: double Fasel inductors for extra sensitivity
The heart of the Dunlop MC404 CAE consists of a high-quality CTS potentiometer and two Fasel inductors, both of which produce their own distinct wah sound. The red Fasel delivers the classic, bright Crybaby sound, while the yellow Fasel inductor offers a deep, warm sound. Use the side of your foot to switch on either inductor by activating the red kick-switch on the right side of the pedal Inside of the MC404 CAE are both inductors and a separate mini potentiometer which makes it possible to control the intensity of each inductor's wah effect for your own personalised wah sound.
True Bypass design and built-in boost function
The Dunlop MC404 CAE also features a built-in MXR MC401 Boost / Line Driver for spicing up the signal when you use multiple pedals. You can also boost your guitar sound up to +16 dB, to make your solos stand out even more. On the left side of the MC404 you'll find the volume control for the amount of boost, along with a red kick-switch for activating the boost function. Clear LED indicators let you know which functions are on or off. Another great feature is that the circuit of the Dunlop MC404 CAE is true bypass, which means that the pedal has absolutely no effect on your sound when it's off.
Finally, the Dunlop MC404 CAE can be powered by a single 9V battery or via the optional Dunlop ECB003 AC adapter. A unique lid gives you direct access to the battery for swift changes.

Dit wah-pedaal heeft me echt verrast. Ik zocht een wah die meer te bieden had dan standaard modellen, en dit pedaal doet dat zeker.
Pluspunten:
- Twee Fasel-inductors met verschillende klankopties: warm en vintage of scherp en modern. Perfect voor verschillende stijlen.
- True bypass, waardoor je geen signaalverlies hebt als het pedaal uitstaat.
- De boost-functie is superhandig voor solo’s en geeft echt wat extra pit.
- Bouwkwaliteit is top. stevig en betrouwbaar, kan wel tegen een stootje.
Minpunten:
- De boost-knop zit wat onhandig laag, waardoor die niet makkelijk te bedienen is tijdens het spelen.
- Bij heel zacht spelen hoor je soms een klein beetje ruis van de potmeter.
Al met al ben ik er echt blij mee. Het geluid is fantastisch, en de extra functies geven veel creatieve mogelijkheden. - Dit pedaal is een aanrader voor iedereen die net wat meer wil dan een standaard wah!

Dan nu het pedaal:
Dit is mijn eerste wah wah pedaal en ben dus nog niet echt 'handig' met het pedaal om het maar zo te noemen, maar zo recht uit de doos (dus zonder aan de q pots te hebben gedraaid) klinkt het naar mijn idee behoorlijk goed. Ik heb lange tijd getwijfeld tussen deze, de mini wah en de 95q. Uiteindelijk voor deze gekozen vanwege de veelzijdigheid van het pedaal. Je hebt keuze als het ware tussen twee soorten wah's: de gele inducter, die wat meer high end heeft en de rode inducter die meer low end en mids geeft. Persoonlijk vind ik de gele geweldig klinken in combinatie met distortion en de rode met een clean signal. Het pedaal gaat wel heel gemakkelijk op en neer naar mijn smaak, maar dit kan je met een bijgeleverde sleutel aanpassen, dus dat zal ook geen probleem meer zijn. Naast de keuze tussen de inducters heb je aan de linkerkant een boost knop zitten. Het volume hiervan kan je aanpassen met de draaiknop rechtsvoor. Zeker met de gele inducter en met distortion doet het waarvoor het gemaakt is namelijk een boost geven. Heerlijk om bij t soloeren er extra uit te springen. De behuizing ziet er stevig uit en daarnaast is het design ook netjes.
De wah bestaat uit top onderdelen zoals Fasel inducters, true bypass switch en het heeft led verlichting (altijd handig en weinig wah's hebben dit).
Na het pedaal nog geen een dag in bezit te hebben moet ik zeggen dat ik behoorlijk onder de indruk ben van dit pedaal.

Door de dual fasel is hij zeer divers qua sounds en ook nog eens te tweaken.
De gele fase stand klinkt mooi, zoals een klassieke wah voor bijv. funk zou moeten klinken.
De rode fasel gebruikt meer low en mids en klinkt echt bijzonder vet.
Ik gebruik deze wah pas twee weken maar is nu al mijn favoriete wah ooit!
Overweeg je om een wah toe te voegen aan je board... zoek niet verder ;)

De Wah is echt super. De default instellingen voor de beide wah types zijn heerlijk.
De eerste wah waarbij ik direct los kon, zonder irritaties.
De boost gebruik ik niet, ik heb nl een mxr boost pedal op m'n board.
Min puntje is dat de boost on/off en de toggle voor wah type aan de zijkant zitten, als je het pedaal stand-alone gebruikt is dat geen issue, maar op een pedalboard moet je bukken en het met de hand wijzigen (ruimte issue).
De bodemplaat zit vast met lange schroeven (4) door een rubber voetje, als je het pedaal op een board wilt plaatsen moet je hier iets mee. De bodemplaat is dunnetjes en zou daarom met meer schroeven bevestigd moeten zijn.
De led's en het design zijn geweldig in mijn beleving.De sound is mega, en is te tweaken naar eigen smaak.
De behuizing is (zodra het pedaal op je board bevestigd is) stevig.
Ik ben tevreden en zou niet snel een andere wah meer aanschaffen
