General

The RME Digiface is a compact, lightweight interface that sends digital audio signals in ADAT and S/PDIF formats to your PC or Mac. It's a straightforward, plug-and-play device. The interface consists of four optical ADAT and S/PDIF inputs and outputs and a high-quality headphone jack. The main advantage of this USB version is that it's bus-powered, which means it doesn't require a separate power source, as that comes directly from your computer. What's more, it supports SMUX and SMUX4 so you can create recordings in 192 kHz in both ADAT and S/PDIF format, which goes for all inputs and outputs.

TotalMix: superior routing possibilities

When you activate the ADAT/optical functionality, you've got up to 32 input and output channels to work with. Channel 33 and 34 are reserved for TotalMix, which is RME's impressive routing mixer, which offers limitless routing and mixing possibilities. For starters, creating delay-free individual monitor mixes is not a problem. Each optical port supports ADAT (8 channels) and S/PDIF (stereo), and the inputs receive the correct signal automatically. You can switch between both formats for the outputs. Each input, every channel, and all hardware outputs feature a peak and RMS level meter that is processed by means of hardware for an extremely accurate result.
