What is a B-Stock Item? Any item we can no longer sell as new is labelled B-stock. General

It probably won't come as a surprise but the Oberheim OB-X8 is completely analogue by design. In fact, the architecture of Tom Oberheim's latest love-note is a mash-up of the old OB-8, OB-X and OB-Xa synths, which were used by virtually every big name back in the eighties. In addition to factory-sounds of old, the OB-X8 serves up a platter of fresh sounds, even if designing your own sounds is clearly what it's all about here. The control lay-out is clean, logical, and basically a continuation of what we saw with the OB-X, so it gives you all you need to shape stunning sounds and samples in no-time. Furnished with wood trim on the sides, the FATAR keyboard of the Oberheim OB-X is touch-sensitive and features aftertouch, while the fitted DIN-MIDI and USB-MIDI ports support seamless studio integration. Lastly, don't let the photos fool you, the OB-X8 offers more adjustable parameters than can be seen. Just like the OB-8 has, there's a second page of parameters you can access on the left of the display to go even deeper into the sonic details.

Prachtig instrument. Van al mijn synthesizers heeft deze het mooiste geluid. Heel erg jaren 80 spacey. Het is in de stijl van de oude eind jaren 70 tot mid jaren 80 Oberheims, de OB-X, OB-Xa en OB-8. Daardoor is hij erg beperkt qua mogelijkheden, vergeleken met moderne synthesizers. Ook qua uiterlijk is het wellicht niet de mooiste. In het echt ziet hij er toch een stuk mooier uit dan op de foto's. Met dit enorme instrument met metalen behuizing en houten zijpanelen heb je echt het gevoel dat je een stukje muziek geschiedenis onder je vingers hebt. De toetsen voelen heel goed. Met de eenvoudige interface en enorme knoppen is het heel makkelijk mooie geluiden te maken. Je weet altijd wat je aan het doen bent en hij klinkt altijd geweldig. Misschien is het net niet zo makkelijk als bij mijn Prophet 5. Die heeft een interface die nog net iets meer voor de hand ligt en een neutralere veelzijdiger geluid. Toch ben ik blijer met mijn OB-X8. Deze klinkt karakteristieker, heeft een stereo output en raakt minder snel ontstemd. Hij inspireert echt om muziek mee te maken.
