The Blackstar Live Logic USB MIDI controller equips your set-up with the ultimate flexibility of full hands-free and real-time parameter control over any connected MIDI hardware or software. Assign functions and call them up at the hit of a switch, and to expand the rang of control even further, an extra two inputs come fitted for expression pedals. This MIDI foot-controller is fully powered via USB, but can also run happily on a standard 9V power supply or battery and comes stage ready, offering a coherent solution for controlling MIDI gear, and just as studio ready since it can be set up to remotely control DAW plug-ins.

Deep MIDI Integration

Using the free PC and Mac compatible app you're granted full access to every parameter and deeper editing options. The Live Logic has two possible modes: Patch functions just like a stompbox, where you're making MIDI Program Changes and sending CC messages to trigger assigned responses, while in Custom mode, each of the six footswitches can be configured to trigger specific MIDI message types, so you can trigger notes and synch everything up with tap-tempo, all in real-time.

Wrote the following about Blackstar Live Logic USB MIDI Controller

Na jarenlange zoektocht dacht ik met de Blackstar Live Logic de perfecte MIDI DAW Foot Controller te hebben gevonden. Het BLL is compact, zeer stevig, heeft voldoende druk knoppen en twee aansluitingen voor expressie pedalen. De druk knoppen zijn ook met blote/sokken voeten comfortabel te bedienen. De Moog EP3 voetcontroller kan prima worden aangesloten op de BLL, geen kabel connectie probleem ervaren zoals de andere reviewers deze hebben ervaren.

De software om de BLL te programmeren is overzichtelijk, duidelijk en intuitief en makkelijk te gebruiken. De BLL werkt plug en play met Ableton, in Reaper is de controller ook eenvoudig te gebruiken. Bijzonder daarbij is dat in Reaper de BLL alleen als MIDI device moet worden geactiveerd. Normaal moet in Reaper een controller ook als MIDI controller in Reaper bekendmaken. Als je dat doet werkt de BLL in Reaper echter niet meer.

Ik was heel tevreden over het gebruik v/d BLL totdat ik de switch aan de achterkant terugschakelde naar User mode. Daarna zond de BLL alleen nog program change PC commando's. De switch terugzetten hielp niet, reset via de software hielp ook niet. Wellicht had ik een pech model, hoop dat het niet structureel is.

Als nieuwkomer in de 'midi-wereld' kwam de handleiding nogal 'intimiderend' over, maar na even puzzelen had ik 'm vrij gemakkelijk op mijn neural dsp plugin aangesloten in patch mode. Daarna overgegaan naar custom mode om te kijken of ik in de software eenzelfde pedalboard kon maken als ik met mijn fysieke pedalboard al heb. Dat was prima te doen. Ik ben tevreden op twee puntjes na: i. de expressie pedaalingang past door de 'extra' opvulring niet lekker op alle jacks (sommige wel, maar anderen minder). Oplossing is zoals de eerste reviewer beschreef. ii. in custom mode blijven voor twee van de 6 switches de led lampjes wel branden als je op de switch drukt (toggle aan/uit), maar de resterende vier lichten alleen op als je er op drukt - bij het loslaten van de switch gaan ze weer uit hoewel ze dezelfde aan/uit toggle functie hebben. Geen idee hoe dat komt, het zal wel aan mij liggen maar echt intuitief werkt het niet. Verder oogt de pedaal degelijk, en vind ik het een zeer prettig formaat. Voeding via USB is ook een voordeel. Ten laatste: top service van bax - zeer snelle levering!

Op papier lijkt deze controller een alles kunner, maar niet alles praktisch. Ik heb deze midi controller kunnen uitproberen en kan de volgende opmerkingen plaatsen:

Ten eerste zit er in de fabricage van het apparaat een foutje, die overigens wel zelf snel te verhelpen is.
De twee connectoren voor de expressiepedalen zijn van twee plastic ringen voorzien als opvulring. Een tip is: draai de chrome moer los en haal de tussen ringen er tussenuit. Plaats vervolgens alleen de conische plastic ring terug en draai de chrome moer weer vast. Doe je dit niet, dan schieten de jackpluggen van de expressie pedalen los om dat deze met de twee ringen niet diep genoeg in de connector past waardoor de vergrendeling niet naar behoren werkt. Dit heb ik overigens bij Blackstar aangegeven en de R&D afdeling gaat dit checken.

Voordelen:
- 3 verschillende voedingssoorten
- de pedalen en switches zijn met een softwarepakketje te programmeren
- compacte afmetingen
- solide bouw en switches
- als je een wireless midi dongel/Widi dongel op deze controller aansluit, kun je deze controller als wireless midi controller gebruiken

Nadelen:
- de stand van de expressiepedalen wordt niet doorgegeven bij het wisselen van de presets. Dus als je bijv. de volumepedaal op minimale stand hebt staan zal er bij het wisselen van de preset de volume waarde worden gebruikt die in de preset staat en niet gerelateerd aan de stand van de expressie pedaal.
- ook blijven de leds branden na het wisselen van de preset in de zgn. stomp mode.
- de preset aanduiding heeft alleen de range 000 t/m 127 en niet 1 t/m 128 als optie.
- helaas kun je niet met een druk op de knop de pedaal mode wisselen (patch modus/stomp custome modus).
- behoorlijk felle leds voor de actieve preset/aan indicatie in de stomp mode.

Het niet door kunnen geven van de expressiepedaal stand bij een presetwissel is voor mij de reden waarom deze midi controller niet voor mij gaat werken.
