General

There are several drawbar organs available today. Most of them have a single keyboard; such a product is usually useful as a lead keyboard in the middle of a stack of keyboards in a band, for example. Now and then we see drawbar organs with two keyboards. These are much more suitable for traditional two-handed organ playing. The Crumar Sorrento is a relatively compact model, with twice 49 keys. The 'upper' keyboard is shifted exactly one octave, so in terms of width you can compare this product to a keyboard/synth with 61 keys.

Features of the Crumar Sorrento

To keep the price manageable, the controls have remained simple:nine drawbars with various buttons to change sections. The basics you expect with this type of organ are there. The drawbars have already been mentioned, but you also get an adjustable percussion kick, vibrato or chorus, and even the organ type is selectable. One connector on the back that still deserves some attention is the "One-Cord to FX". Simultaneously with the Sorrento, Crumar is releasing the 'Burn', a pedal with the effects Leslie, reverb and overdrive. Sounds like upsell, doesn't it? However, the Sorrento just comes with that Burn pedal, and so it uses that aforementioned connector. And so that completes this handy organ! And if we then look at the prices of other drawbar organs with two manuals: only the slightly larger Crumar MOJO-CL comes close. The rest are considerably pricier, which makes this Sorrento a particularly interesting choice!

Tips or comments about this product

Note that the One-Cord To FX connector looks like a normal RJ45 Ethernet connector. But it is definitely not an Ethernet connection! So don't connect it to the computer, you risk breaking your computer. The only way to connect the Sorrento directly to a computer is via the USB connector, or indirectly via the DIN-MIDI connectors (via a MIDI interface, that is - sometimes also present on an audio interface).

Wrote the following about Crumar Sorrento drawbar organ

De klank en mogelijkheden van dat orgel zijn super. Klank in combinatie met de analog distortion en burn pedal is hoe een hammond moet klinken. Maar ik moet toch met spijt de Sorrento terugsturen. Static discharge issues bij Crumar producten zijn blijkbaar gekende problemen. Mijn toestel, pas 4 dagen in mijn bezit, heeft 2 x een sticky noot gehad tijdens het spelen. Héél vervelend als dat gebeurt tijdens een optreden. Ik vind het héél spijtig want de klank van het toestel is fantastisch maar sorry, onbetrouwbare hardware.
