General

The XSonic Airstep is a smart, universal, multifunctional, and wireless foot-controller able to offer the ultimate in flexible gear and effect control. Set it up as a replay switch or control MIDI-compatible amplifiers, use this insanely flexible pedal to remotely switch the tracks and effects of a DAW, control apps via Bluetooth whether they're running on an Android or iOS device, or set it up to turn your old-school MIDI controller into a fully wireless controller.

5 + 5 Wireless Expansion and Eased Control

What about flipping through score or tablature? The Airstep can even be set up to do that. It can even function as a remote 'floor keyboard', so you can pause and play video content on your computer. As standard, this intelligent stompbox offers five footswitches but an Airstep Lite (not included) can be added on to expand the controls with a further five footswitches and every switch can be assigned to toggle up to eight different control messages depending on how many times you hit it and how you hit it. Each control message can be assigned using the free Airstep app, and if programming isn't really your thing, you can simply select your preferences from the healthy stack of presets already provided. The incomparable Airstep is powered by an internal rechargeable battery, so no external power needed.

Het pedaal is goed gebouwd, en biedt prima mogelijkheden. Het heeft echter een paar belangrijke problemen die maken dat het voor mij toch niet een heel groot succes is:
- Onwerkbare Bluetoothverbinding met IPad (werkt wel op Android).
De Bluetooth verbinding met mijn IPad is heel instabiel. Daardoor is het niet mogelijk om het pedaal met mijn IPad te gebruiken. Dat betekent dus ook dat ik de instellingen niet kan veranderen met mijn (want dat kan niet via USB, maar moet via Bluetooth). Gelukkig werkt de Bluetoothverbinding wel goed met mijn Android toestel en kan ik daar de XSONIC wel mee instellen.
- De XSONIC AIrstep Multi kan maar een beperkte hoeveelheid midi-informatie aan.
Als de XSONIC een beetje te veel midi tegelijk moet afhandelen, dan gaat er midi informatie verloren. Gevolg: noten die blijven hangen op de aangesloten synthesizers. Enorm iritant. Om de kans daarom te verminderen laat ik de midi van een voetschakelaar alleen verzenden naar een enkel midikanaal en niet meer naar alle midi-outs. Ook heb ik op mijn keyboard (aangesloten op de MIDI IN) de tempo informatie moeten uitzetten. Ik had ook nog een expressiepedaal aangesloten, die de AIRSTEP moest uitsturen als MIDI CC01, maar ook dan is de kans groot dat hij zich verslikt in de MIIDI info, dus die laat ik nu maar achterwege.

Op het moment gebruik ik de controller voor het besturen van HID commando's in het programma Transcribe!, werkt heel fijn.
Loop punten instellen, Loop AB activeren, langzamer afspelen.
Ook gebruik ik het pedaal voor midi icm. Aplitube, werkt ook super handig. Schakelen tussen patches en binnen de patches, effecten uit en aanzetten.
Binnenkort ga ik ook proberen de Airstep op mijn Boss Katana Artist aan te sluiten.
Nog veel te ontdekken!
