General

While the original 2020 Arturia PolyBrute isn't the most affordable synthesizer on the market, it's proven to be quite popular. This means that the demand for pricey but top-tier analogue synths is definitely there, which is good news in the current age of virtual instruments. Featuring aftertoch, built-in expression pedals and a special multidimensional controller, the Polybrute is all about adding nuance and offering hands-on control over the sound. Can it get even more expressive? Oh yes it can. Enter the Arturia PolyBrute 12.

The Arturia PolyBrute 12: Features

The new Polybrute on the block boasts double the polyphony compared to its predecessor, setting you up with no less than twelve voices, with two analogue oscillators, a sub oscillator and sync/FM options per voice. On top of that, you're looking at three envelopes, three LFOs, a solid set of filters, an expansive modulation matrix and a host of effects. This substractive synth is surprisingly easy-and-intuitive to operate and not only features both polyphonic and monophonic aftertouch, but Arturia's own FullTouch technology, which supports key travel across the entire range of movement for precise and dynamic aftertouch expression as well as maximum sound-shaping versatility.

Unrivalled Expressive Potential

If there's one synth that doesn't sound static, it's the Polybrute. Cut out for sculpting fully expressive sounds, this synthesizer can actually add that human touch to your sound. It's not for nothing that Arturia have built in two expression pedal ports, pitch and modulation wheels, a ribbon controller and a special Morphée pad. Seriously, it's practically impossible to make this synth sound static — and that's exactly the point.

Who's It For?

Granted, it doesn't come cheap, but if you're a sound designer or musician who seeks deeply expressive sound, then the PolyBrute 12 is for you. If all you need is a synth for playing simple pads in the style of 'Jump' by Van Halen, then this impressive bit of kit is probably overqualified.

De aanleiding om deze synthesizer aan te schaffen was het knutselen aan verschillende sounds met de synths die ik al heb en de vele YouTube filmpjes die ik zag.
Dat de brut groot en zwaar is, werd al duidelijk door het gepuf van de postbode. Het design van de synth is geweldig. De verschillende secties zijn overzichtelijk en logisch opgebouwd en geven op het eerste gezicht al goed weer hoeveel mogelijkheden deze synth heeft. Ook al heb ik nog lang niet alles ontdekt, het plezier om ermee te werken is al mega! Als muzikant wil je muziek maken, de onnoemelijk grote sound mogelijkheden o.a. door een flinke bibliotheek aan sounds geven mij al heel wat uren plezier en genieten bij het bespelen van het instrument. Wat ik jammer vind is het toetsenbord. Het voelt wat té licht en heeft iets plastics en fragiel. Aan het uiteinde van de toets is een randje gemaak waar ik vooral bij snelle riffs met de duim enigszins blijf “haken" dat zal ook met gewenning te maken hebben. Als Arturia iets aan deze synth zou moeten veranderen is het voor mij alleen dit stukje. Voor de rest is dit een geweldige synth. Misschien is dit niet de enige review die ik erover ga schrijven hij is er immers nog maar net. Er zijn heel veel goede video’s over de mogelijkheden van de synth daar ga ik dus niemand mee vervelen. Als je net als ik muzikant bent en minder techneut heb je heel veel plezier aan dit instrument. De polyfonie in dit instrument geeft vooral bij sounddesign heel veel mogelijkheden Ik ben verknocht aan gitaar sounds en probeer de ziel van die sound te vangen in de synth, de vele geluiden die ontstaan bij het aanslaan van de snaren, de klank van het hout etc zijn door de vele mogelijkheden van deze synth bereikbaar dat wordt nog eens extra ondersteund door de MPE mogelijkheden in de aftertouch. Ik ga er nu weer mee aan de slag. Na enige tijd zal ik wel weer wat schrijven. Het valt misschien op dat ik geen vijf sterren gegeven heb. Dat ligt aan het "gevoel” dat ik heb bij het toetsenbord. Dat is bij heel wat synthesizers in deze klasse beter.
Verder is kan ik iedereen die verknocht is aan synthesizer muziek aanraden dit instrument eens te bespelen!!

Een enorme synth qua omvang, maar ook qua sound!

12 stemmig analoog signaalpad met oneindig veel mogelijkheden qua sound design en een hele dikke fx sectie.

Met het Fulltouch keyboard icm de Morphee en ribbon controller ook één van de meest expressieve synthesizers die er zijn.

Echt een moderne klassieker!

Ce synthé respire un gros potentiel. Mais je dois encore le découvrir et le tester plus en profondeur. Le clavier full touch est bien sûr étonnant, et cela va être perturbant de retourner sur nos autres claviers. Pour le moment, le point négatif, c'est son poids. Quand on est tout seul, le manœuvrer est galère. Quelques années plus tôt, j'avais déjà souffert du poids de l'Origin d'Arturia. Mais le Polybrute est encore plus lourd. Vu le prix, on ne voudrait pas l'abîmer.
