General

Marshall's DSL40CR is a 40-watt tube guitar amplifier combo from the DSL series. It has a classic gain channel that offers a more traditional guitar sound, while the ultra gain channel is more modern. It's easy to switch between them using the included foot pedal. Each channel also has two different modes giving you four different sounds in all. The DSL40CR is equipped with three ECC83 preamp tubes with another in the power amp along with two EL34s. When you don't need the full 40 watts, you can easily change it to 20 watts by using the output switch.

DSL40CR: Celestion V-Type speaker and five speaker outputs

The single 12-inch Celestion V-Type 80 speaker is flexible and produces an exceptional tone that's perfect for both channels. There are 5 speaker outputs on board too giving you the option to add 4, 8 or 16 ohm speakers as well. There's also an emulated out with cabinet simulation which means you can enjoy the same great sound when you connect the amp directly to equipment like a mixer or an audio interface.

Two master volumes, 3-band EQ and MIDI compatible

The DSL40CR has two master volume controls on board to give your sound an extra boost when you really want it to stand out. Each channel has its own gain, volume and reverb controls, while they share a 3-band EQ and controls for presence and resonance. You can also get scooped mids by using the Tone Shift button. External effects can be added via the FX loop and there's also a line/MP3 input as well as a MIDI input which means you can control this amp using any MIDI equipment too.

Ik heb de versterker nu een maand en is inmiddels meegegaan naar een buitenoptreden. Wat een beest!

Op half vermogen kon de DSL40CR met gemak mee, op vol vermogen knalt hij boven iedereen uit. Na wat onderzoek op het web over instellingen voor live-optredens een instelling kunnen vinden waarmee weinig tot geen effect-pedalen nodig zijn. Binnen de vier kanalen op de versterker kun je met gemak switchen tussen crispy clean en geweldige overstuurde geluiden.

De sound blijft ook goed geaccentueerd en wordt niet modderig als hij hard gaat. En hard gaat ie :)

De Marshall DSL40CR klinkt goed, heel goed zelfs. Er zijn veel klank- en oversturingsmogelijkheden. Er is echter een probleem. Als ik de FX-loop bedien met de schakelaar op de amp. zonder aangesloten footswitch werkt die prima. (Behalve na het uitzetten van de versterker met ingeschakelde effectloop, dan moet je de FX-loop eerst een keer uit- en vervolgens weer inschakelen) Met de footswitch kan ik echter niet de FX-loop inschakelen als kanaal 1 (classic gain) actief is. Wel als kanaal 2 (ultra gain) actief is. Om op kanaal 1 de FX-loop te activeren moet eerst naar kanaal 2, vervolgens FX-loop inschakelen en dan terug naar kanaal 1. Dan heb ik de effectloop met kanaal 1. Uitschakelen lukt wel. Als je niet van plan bent om de externe effectloop te gebruiken is er niets aan de hand. Anders kom je waarschijnlijk van een koude kermis thuis. Voor mij reden om hem terug te sturen. Jammer, want hij klonk beslist niet verkeerd.
