Recent heb ik deze basgitaar gekocht omdat het model mij aansprak. Vervolgens blijkt dat de gitaar enorm licht van gewicht is en dat is heel prettig als je er een tijd mee om je nek moet staan spelen. Uiteraard had ik de gitaar geprobeerd in de Bax winkel in Amsterdam. Het ding speelt buitengewoon aangenaam, dat is een feit. Verbazingwekkend voor een gitaar van deze prijsklasse. Tot nu toe altijd (en dat is al vele jaren) gespeeld op Fender basgitaren maar sinds ik deze Marcus Miller gitaar heb aangeschaft eigenlijk alleen nog maar daarop gespeeld.
De gitaar heeft een schakelaar met twee standen: inactief en actief. Aan de achterkant zit een klepje dat je kan los schroeven om er twee standaard 9 volt batterijen in te plaatsen. Deze zaten erin bij aankoop maar waren al dood. Dus die moesten worden vervangen. Toen dat eenmaal was gedaan, kwam er een zee van geluid uit. Dit kan worden geregeld met de vijf aanwezige draaiknoppen waarvan er twee gecombineerde knoppen hebben, dus in totaal zeven draaiknoppen. Het is niet van alle knoppen duidelijk wat ze doen want er aan draaien maakt geen enkel verschil in volume of klankkleur. De twee elementen worden in elk geval apart geregeld door middel van de twee grote volumeknoppen.
Enkele nadelen van de basgitaar:
1] de stemmechanieken zijn van een wat lage kwaliteit. Dat maakt stemmen niet zo makkelijk als met bijvoorbeeld Fender stemmechanieken. Als je de gitaar eenmaal in stemming hebt, verloopt deze niet zolang de temperatuur hetzelfde blijft.
