The Gold Tone AC-1 5 String Open Back Banjo was named Best in Show at the 2016 Summer NAMM for a reason. Indeed, this is a very serious beginner banjo at a very good price. That this is a bit more the standard starter instrument is shown by the fact that the AC-1 5 String Open Back Banjo comes with a professional 11-inch sheet from Remo and with a sturdy carrying case with two handles and a large compartment for accessories. This is the left-handed version.
AC-1 5 String Open Back Banjo features
The shell of this banjo is made of composite. This makes the banjo very sturdy, but still lightweight. The total weight comes out to a paltry 1.7 kilograms, so no problem playing this instrument for an entire evening. It's no disaster for your ears either, because the open back makes the banjo less loud than closed back. Not only can you play this instrument for a long time at a stretch, you can play it for quite some time. Besides the solid body, there is also a two-sided adjustable neck pin installed, so you can easily straighten your neck if it is warped by weather conditions.
