Aguilar took their popular Tone Hammer preamp/DI pedal and built a 500W Class-D amplifier around it. The result is the Tone Hammer 500 bass guitar amp top. This device produces the legendary Aguilar sound, with deep bass tones, rich mids and sultry trebles. Moreover, the TH500 features a versatile active 3-band EQ, a colourful drive function and an FX loop, all packed into a super compact device that weighs only two kilos and that will fit into the accessory compartment of your gig bag with ease.
Aguilar Tone Hammer 500: Versatile Powerhouse
This bass guitar amplifier might be small, but it is more than powerful enough for small to medium-size stages (500W at 4 Ohms or 250W at 8 Ohms). What’s more, the TH500 is surprisingly easy to use. It features controls for gain, drive and master volume, plus bass, mid (with adjustable frequency) and treble that you can boost or filter out at will. Add your favourite rack effects to the signal via the serial effects loop connector on the front.
Drive Function and DI
The Tone Hammer 500’s drive function is equipped with Aguilar’s patented Adaptive Gain Shaping circuit (AGS), which adjusts the gain structure and EQ, allowing you to effortlessly go from modern slap sounds to a warm vintage sound or overdrive. Additionally, the TH500 features a DI-connector for direct recording or live stage performances. It is a balanced XLR output that has a pre/post EQ switch and ground lift.

Niet langer over nadenken, gewoon kopen dat ding. Je hebt het nodig ;)
De Markbass viel als heel snel af. Veel minder headroom en ik moest meteen aan de knoppen om het nivo van de Aquilar te halen.
Bij de TH500 viel mijn mond meteen open; wat een heerlijke klank en punch. Deze laat echt horen wat er uit je bas komt zonder kleuring wat ik vooral bij de Ampeg (SVT7 pro) erg vond.
De Toonregeling, in feite is dat de Toonhamer pedaal, is zeer effectief. Met hele kleine aanpassingen bereik je wat je wilt. Ik vind het geluid zeer gedefinieerd.
De Aquilar heeft weinig opsmuk; geen headphone aansluiting, compressor, filters of dat soort zaken. Basgitaar aansluiten en spelen lijkt het doel.
Na ongeveer 10 minuten spelen gaat de ventilator aan. Ik hoor 'm alleen thuis als ik even niet speel. Al in de oefenruimte hoor ik 'm niet meer. Waarom die ventilator aan gaat weet ik niet want warm wordt de amp niet, zelfs niet als het een poosje hard gaat.
Met een gewicht van 1,7 Kg is dit een van de lichtste basversterkers met dit vermogen die er zijn denk ik.
Voor mij is dit amp die ik zocht.
Ik heb dit, en de 300 watt versie extensief getest op aguilar 112 cabs, en het klinkt zeker niet slecht. Als je niet echt diepe bassen nodig hebt en eerder in de low mid je ding vindt, ok, daar is het prima voor.
Echter de eindtrap zelf voert ( zoals de meeste klasse D's) een versterk maar, maar doe vooral niets leuks met de klank politiek door.
Daarnaast, bij stevig volume ( daar versta ik +1/3 tot half belast ) kwam de ventilator nog altijd boven het bas geluid uit. zowel bij de 300 als de 500. Ik dacht eerst aan een exemplarisch defect, maar ze hadden het beide... voor mij, echt storend. Sorry.
Preamp zelf is wel leuk, maar, ik prefereer wat meer sparkle in mijn toon. Dit laaste is eigen smaak.
De 500 heeft wel een pak meer headroom dan de 300. Als je keuze op deze tops valt, dan zou ik voor de 500 watt gaan, niet voor het vermogen, wel voor de headroom. Heb je een fretless bas, zeker de 500 proberen.
Sorry Aguilar. Jullie kunnen pakken beter dan dit. Met deze 875 euro ( op dit moment de prijs) kan er wel wat anders.
