While a lot of five-string banjos will come fitted with spikes to capo the fifth string, this can actually cause damage over time. To clean things up and still retain that classic, characteristic sound, the Shubb FS-5N capo offers a smart alternative.
The Shubb FS-5N Capo: Old Concept, New Sound
When Shubb first set up shop, they only produced one kind of capo: the FS-5N. Designed specifically for the fifth-string of a banjo, this capo was the number one alternative to using spikes, which not only leave holes in the fretboard but can result in strings breaking when they shouldn't. While the Shubb FS-5N capo does need to be mounted at two points, once installed, it applies optimum tension to the string, removing fear of breakage.
Easy Operation
This capo is mounted on a bar that sits flush to the side of the fretboard and well out of the way so, once installed, you can simply slide the capo smoothly into position without needing to retune.
