Sometimes a crash can be just a bit too much, while a splash is too subtle. Luckily, this 14-inch crash cymbal from Zildjian's popular A Custom series inhabits the grey area between splash and crash. This cymbal sounds bright, but not too high and not too low. Furthermore, it has a lightning-quick response and some nice, warm overtones, making it very well suited for louder styles of music. Imagine you're playing a rock song with your hi-hats half open, already at a considerable volume, but the music demands some more intensity. You could start wash riding your 16-inch crash, but that would compromise definition and make the song lose its drive. With this 14-inch crash you can lay down a clear groove, even in those situations. However, it is also very well suited for more subtle playing, as it sounds great in reggae-fills or fusion music, for instance.
