General
These days, new recording software can be replaced on the market from one day to the next. Regardless, Steinberg has always maintained an invincible position with their Cubase software, and now, they've released a brand-new version: Pro 8.5. This sequencer is teeming with over 3,400 sounds dispersed over eight instruments that you can edit with about ninety different effects processors. Recording, mixing, composing and arranging is easier than ever before, and now, you can also work with other musicians, no matter where you are in the world using VST Transit and Connect. It's an ingenious cloud-based system that allows you to record parts using an interface or even a live webcam, and send them to the cloud for retrieval and collaboration with others.
Cubase Pro 8.5: recording socially
With every update, a DAW designer will try to create a more simplified, bug-free version of the software. With Cubase Pro 8.5, you can customise your own workflow with MediaBay, for instance, which allows you to browse through instruments, samples and files with the click of a button. VST transit and Connect allows for a social recording process which means you can record and send files to the cloud and retrieve them again no matter where you are. Recording is as easy as getting your band members to set up their webcams and lay down their tracks - that'll save on travel costs as well!
Tweak, fine-tune and crop
If you've worked with other DAWs, you're probably familiar with the problem of replicating a previously adjusted set of recording preferences for a current recording session. With Pro 8.5, you can import individual sounds from different tracks to your current song. If you're not familiar with alternative chords, Chord Pad will assist you by quickly offering a possible substitution, and editing drum parts note for note is a piece of cake with the Drum Editor. Of course, this software features even more functions and possibilities - check out the Downloads section for the user manual.
