The harmonica world was shocked the moment Hohner presented the Special 20 harmonica to the public in the 1970s. Hohner was the first to come up with the idea of making a harmonica with a plastic comb. This had the advantage of being much more durable, not swelling and having a unique sound. Thus, the Special 20 was at the beginning of a revolution.

Hohner Special 20 F-sharp

This version is hand-tuned in the key of F-sharp. If you are somewhat familiar with harmonicas, you may know that this key is used as a crossharp for music in the key of Db or C-sharp. This is generally not the most accessible key to teach you this instrument. This is because many books and methods often stick to the key of C. Yet even this tuning has its charms. The Special 20 sounds warm and very reliable. Because Hohner always wants to get the most out of their instruments, this one too is made from only the best materials. The reeds and tuning plate are made of copper and the cover plates are stainless steel. The mouthpiece, like the comb, is made of ABS, making it a lot smoother to play than, say, a wooden mouthpiece. Both at home and on stage, you can have a lot of fun with this harmonica.
