Hohner Marine Band - Deluxe, Db harmonica

To understand why this harmonica is legendary you have to go back more than 120 years. After all, Hohner produced the first Marine Band back in 1896 and the instrument has shaped the sound of many blues and pop artists. So with this Deluxe version, you get access to the rich history of the Marine Band, but with more playing comfort and a longer lifespan.

The Marine Band Deluxe

Hohner did not produce the Deluxe as a replacement for the original Marine Band, as the 1896 variant is still being produced, almost unchanged. The aim of the Deluxe is to bring the authentic sound of the Marine Band into a more comfortable and durable package. The ergonomic design offers much more playing comfort and the rounded edges of the harmonica feel more natural. By keeping the materials the same, the timbre remains largely identical to the original. For instance, the comb and mouthpiece are also made of pearwood and it is the triple lacquer coating that ensures a faster response. The design is much more compact and the parts fit together perfectly. The covers are a good example of what Hohner had in mind; in fact, they have been redesigned, allowing more volume to be generated, while retaining the classic looks. This version is tuned in Db-major, not the most common key there is, but certainly no less beautiful for that.
