General

Did you know that Hohner owns the patent for the bamboo comb? Unlike plastic or more traditionally-used materials like pearwood, this natural material is what makes the Marine Band Thunderbird capable of producing deep, low tones. The use of bamboo was instrumental in creating this low-tuned harmonica, which will add a whole new dimension to your harmonica playing. The conical covers by Joe Filisko are especially designed to prevent rattling reeds.

The secret of a low-tuned harmonica

Hohner cracked the code! Their best low-tuned harmonica is still being made in Germany and to this day, the competition has not been able to produce its equal. The secret of Hohner's success lies in the combination of a 3-layered lacquer bamboo comb and specially-designed conical covers that produce a warm tone and allow the low tones to come through without any unwanted sounds caused by rattling reeds, for instance. The Marine Band Thunderbird is extremely airtight, which directly contributes to its quick response. The mouthpiece is coated generously with a layer of SuperGlide lacquer to make your playing experience even smoother than ever.
