A comb made of bamboo wood? Hohner has patented it. This new natural material is in fact able to reproduce those beautiful, deep and low tones more easily than traditional pearwood or plastic. Partly because of this, Hohner was the first in the world to make a good low-tuned harmonica. The Marine Band Thunderbird represents a new dimension in low-tuned harmonica playing. The secret of a good low-tuned harmonica

Hohner cracked the code: the best low-tuned harmonica still comes from the German harmonica giant's factory. Until today, no one has surpassed, or even matched, Hohner. How did Hohner manage to pull this off after all? The combination of the triple-lacquered bamboo comb and specially designed covers probably plays a big part in this. This makes for a warm sound, allowing the bass to come out well without unpleasant side noises such as rattling tongues. The Marine Band Thunderbird is extremely airtight, which greatly benefits the response. This allows the thick brass tongues to respond quickly when you put the harmonica to your lips. The mouthpiece of the Thunderbird is well lacquered, with, according to Hohner, 'SuperGlide' lacquer, allowing you to glide the harmonica smoothly past your lips.
