General
Presonus offers a line of truly amazing mixers with their StudioLive series. Those who seek extensive hardware/software combination and who would like to control the functions of their mixer via computer, tablet or even smartphone, are well served with the StudioLive 16.4.2AI. This compact version of the StudioLive AI models offers 16 channels and 4 subgroups, as well as a built-in 32x18-channel FireWire interface. Thanks to the included and supported software, you can enjoy a seamless link of devices as well as the clear - yet extensive - functionality of the StudioLive 16.4.2AI.
Active Integration
Compared to the previous StudioLive models, the 16.4.2AI offers a staggering amount of calculating power. Thanks to modern processors and a huge RAM memory, you can add even the most complex effect presets to any channel, without being limited by the hardware. Even digital artefacts, like you find on other digital mixers, are not an issue. The 32-bit floating-point DSP processor ensures a dynamic, clear sound with highly refined stereo imaging. Especially when used with Studio One Artists, this is an exceptional mixing setup.
Fat Channel
A key feature of the StudioLive 16.4.2AI is its layerless layout. All inputs have physical (100mm long-throw) faders. What's more, there's a centrally located, studio-grade channel strip that houses a compressor, a limiter, a gate/expander and 4-band semi-parametric EQ for each channel - called Fat Channel. Each of these dynamic studio-grade modules can be adjusted from channel to channel. Clear LEDs instantly show you the effects' status for the selected channel.
4x DSP-effects and XMAX-preamps
You don't have to tell Presonus that a digital table doesn't quite cut the mustard if it doesn't have on-board effects. This mixer has no fewer than four adjustable 32-bit DSP effects processors, two with reverbs and two with delays. You can freely edit the 50 presets via logical parameters. For instance, you can apply the right reverb or rhythmic delay to each channel. Last but not least, the 16 microphone channels feature XMAX preamplifiers, which offer a massive headroom and a rich tone. What's more, there are Burr-Browns converters for DA/AD conversion, safeguarding tonal quality. Even though all the options of the StudioLive 16.4.2AI may seem a bit daunting, it is surprisingly easy to use.
