The Casio AP-460WE is a white digital piano from the Celviano series. In most regards it resembles the PX-860WE - a Casio Privia model - but is has a more sizeable cabinet, so it looks more like an acoustic piano. Like the PX-860WE, the AP-460WE features a pleasant Tri-sensor Scaled Hammer Action Keyboard II and an AiR sound source, as well as various advanced effects like String Resonance, Damper Resonance, Key Off Resonance and Lid Simulator, which emulate the subtle sound characteristics of a grand piano. The piano's 88 keys feel as if they were made of real ebony and ivory. For a complete piano experience, this Casio Celviano model comes with a stand and three pedals.

AP-460WE: playing along

If you have an AP-460WE around, you'll never have to feel bored again. Are you tired of the regular piano sound? Just pick one of the four other grand piano models or select an entirely different instrument, such as electric piano, strings, bass or organ. A Hall Simulator with 10 different types makes you feel like you're playing in a classic concert hall, and there are various ways of playing along with the AP-460. Activate one of the sixty built-in compositions, switch the left or right-hand part off and practise the piece using the provided sheet music. Alternatively, you can select a duet, or one of ten piano pieces that come with orchestral backing. An audio recorder, which records WAV files to a USB stick, allows you to play back and evaluate your own performance.

Sound and playing experience

To precisely register the force of your key strokes, the AP-460 is equipped with a tri-sensor mechanism. Quick repeats are accurately reproduced and this Casio is even capable of simulating the tiny differences in timing that occur due to different playing styles and keys. To make the sound really authentic, factors like attack, sustain and decay have been taken into account, and you can clearly hear the difference in timbre between softly played passages and more vehement parts. Damper Resonance effectively simulates the rich resonance that's audible when you press down a sustain pedal, while the equally impressive String Resonance reproduces the sound of strings resonating along with a lower note. Finally, it's possible to influence the overall timbre of the Celviano AP-460WE by opening the lid that covers the speakers.
