General
The Privia PX-860WE digital piano is part of Casio's Privia series, a popular line that's characterised by an excellent price/quality ratio. It's an excellent choice if you're looking for an affordable digital piano with a convincing grand piano tone and an authentic playing feel. For the white PX-860WE, Casio has pulled out all the tricks to ensure a life-like acoustic piano simulation. Among other features, the piano offers String Resonance, Damper Resonance, a Lid Simulator (which emulates either a closed or open lid) and a Hall Simulator, which reproduces the reverb of a number of famous concert halls. The Casio digital piano comes with a stand and three pedals.
PX-860WE: keyboard and additional features
Not only does the PX-860's sound resemble that of a real grand piano, its keyboard feels incredibly authentic too. The 88 keys feel as if they're made of genuine ebony and ivory, while an internal mechanism imitates the typical hammer response of a real grand. Of course this doesn't mean you have to limit yourself to playing the piano. In addition to various grands, this Privia piano also offers a range of electric pianos and organs. As icing on the cake, the PX-860WE boasts various digital features to enhance your playing experience even more, such as a metronome and an audio recorder that allows you to record to a USB stick. There are also a number of built-in songs that you can learn to play by means of included sheet music - it's even possible to switch left or right-hand part off. Ten piano pieces come with their own orchestral backing.
Sound and playing experience
To precisely register the force of your key strokes, the PX-860 is equipped with a tri-sensor mechanism. Quick repeats are accurately reproduced and this Casio is even capable of simulating the tiny differences in timing that occur due to different playing styles and keys. To make the sound really authentic, factors like attack, sustain and decay have been taken into account, and you can clearly hear the difference in timbre between softly played passages and more vehement parts. Damper Resonance effectively simulates the rich resonance that's audible when you press down a sustain pedal, while the equally impressive String Resonance reproduces the sound of strings resonating along with a lower note. Finally, it's possible to influence the overall timbre of the Privia PX-860WE by opening the lid that covers the speakers.
