General

Fazley makes the double bass accessible and affordable for anyone interested in this special instrument. Indeed, the B-SB901 is extremely friendly priced. This model has a 3/4 size and is therefore a size smaller than the 4/4 version. However, many musicians prefer this model, as it is a lot more manageable and easier to play. In addition, you can still count on a full and warm sound, because of the large sound hole. Take your first step into the wonderful world of string instruments with this Fazley double bass.

Complete set

A salient detail is that the Fazley B-SB-901 comes complete with a practical gig bag. This carry bag offers excellent protection. In addition, the bag is easy to carry, thanks to its sturdy handles. Incidentally, the gig bag also has a handy compartment for accessories. For example, you can take along a tuning device or your sheet music. Of course, you also get a decent bow with a block of rosin. In short, everything you need to get started right away!

Tips or comments about this product

  • Note: When tuning the strings for the first time, we recommend doing this slowly and gradually. The G string in particular is under high tension and may break if tensioned too quickly.

Fazley B-SB901 3/4 Double Bass with Gig Bag, Bow and Rosin

My Son is delighted with this double bass. It came very well packaged, it of amazing quality. I must admit I was dubious when ordering as this was much cheaper than other places, so felt I was taking a risk. But I was wrong, so apologies for that! Would highly recommend.

Fazley B-SB901 3/4 Double Bass with Gig Bag, Bow and Rosin

An interesting starter bass. Super cheap at around £470 even for a plywood bass. The finish is also fake, it looks printed closevup but pretty acceptable at distance.

It came boxed and with the bridge not fitted which did make me concerned about the sound post. However, all was well, there must be enough tension between the top and bottom to hold it.

I fitted the bridge in accordance with an online guide and inline with the f hole notches. I then lined up the strings. Slowly tuning up all the strings together to almost the correct pitch. Then a final tune to GDAE but twang, the G string broke near the tuner. This suggests there is too much resistance pulling through the nut guide. (I recommend using a soft pencil to put down some graphite on the groove first).
Once a replacement string was fitted, it's vlear that the bridge is way too large and this leaves the strings 10 to 14mm above the fingerboard, way too high. I have obtained a second bridge to modify, cheap from ebay to cut down to allow 7 to 10mm max clearance.
Overall its not too heavy, feels sturdy but does come with rubbish strings, it's better with some cheap ish replacements. Sounds like a double bass, at least more than an electric one and works well with claddic J tone pickups fitted to the bridge.
Overall 4 stars for the money, upgrade tge strings, have a good setup and it's good as a starter bass but you will probably want to upgrade it one day to at least a hybrid that looks better!

looks lovely but I found an annoying buzzing sound in the body when playing it so I'm just waiting for my replacement which hopefully will play better

Fazley B-SB901 3/4 Double Bass with Gig Bag, Bow and Rosin

Fazley T-100 Tuner with Metronome

Innox ISA 02 Music Stand

Prima bladmuziekstandaard.
