General

The Stagg EDB-3/4 DBR electric double bass was designed especially for bass players who don't want to start fights with the neighbours! It has the sound of an acoustic double bass, but thanks to its slim design and lack of a body, it's much more mobile. Simply connect it to your amplifier, add some headphones to the mix if you want, and away you go! The built-in pickup puts you in control over the volume and intonation that the instrument produces.

Stagg EDB-3/4 DBR: classic sound in a modern package

The EDB-3/4 DBR might not look like the double bass that you're used to, but it certainly does feel the same when you play it. The body and neck are made of maple for an earthy, natural sound. Furthermore, the headstock is equipped with P-style machine heads, so you can count on stable tuning. The active pickup is powered by a 9V battery, and you can even connect an audio device to the instrument via the mini jack so you can play along with your favourite songs!

Define your own sound

On the side of the body you'll find volume and bass controls; the bass control can be used to adjust the amount of bass your hear in your mix, so you can optimally adjust it for your style. Wrote the following about Stagg EDB-3/4 electric double bass dark brown

A great piece of kit. I use in small theatre settings in conjunction with Fender Rumble 40 bass amp. This combination produces a very good quality sound and excellent transportability. I am very pleased with the purchase and the excellent service from Bax.

4 stars rather than 5, because the pre-amp battery does just die without warning. I would recommend no more than 3 to 4 nights without changing the battery.

Voor de prijs prima instrument. Output level van de voorversterker is best hoog, daar moet je rekening mee houden als je je versterker opendraait! De sound is mede afhankelijk van de gebruikte snaren, de meegeleverde zijn ok maar betere zijn aan te raden (Thomastik Spirocore light bijv.).
Ik had hem besteld omdat ik artrose in de linkerhand blijk te hebben en de contrabas te zwaar spelen wordt. In dat opzicht voldoet de Stagg niet echt, de snaarlengte is gelijk dus de spanning ook en daarmee de belasting voor de hand.
Wat kleine minpuntjes: gebruikershandleiding is er niet, ik was in verwarring doordat het "battery low" lampje ook dient als indicatie dat hij is ingeschakeld. Als je je snoer al in een versterker of koptelefoon hebt ingeplugd en daarna in de bas steekt, komt er een flinke knal uit (dan schakel je hem in). Dat moet dus andersom. De snaardelen tussen kam en staartstuk kunnen nogal meeresoneren, daar zou een stuk rubber tussen gestopt kunnen worden.
Ik heb hem nog te kort voor een dieper gaande review, voor mijn doel is hij toch niet geschikt denk ik, maar vond het verder een heel aardig instrument voor de prijs!
