General
The XK-3c is a thoroughbred Hammond, and despite its digital setup, it sounds and feels just a fantastic as the large, electro-mechanical Hammonds of old. An advanced VASE III sound engine puts 98 digital tone wheels into virtual motion, and the modern modelling technology the XK-3c uses to emulate classic sounds enables you to make minute adjustments to the keyboard's audio output. As such, you're able to produce anything from shredding rock to toned-down, warm soul. It's like having your very own B-3!
Hammond XK-3c: a simulated Leslie... or the real deal?
A true organ player can't do without a Leslie. Too bad it's so hard to come across one these days! Fortunately, Hammond is able to simulate the beloved characteristics of the Leslie rotor speaker by means of digital modelling. Hammond's XK-3c features models of the Leslie 122, 147, 31H 'TallBoy', 722, 760, 825 and Rock (925) editions. The colouring of these organ sounds is impressive - set your XK-3c to one of these presets, and prepare to be blown away. What's even better, is that 17 parameters enable you to adjust the Leslie models. You'll be able to create a virtually endless number of lifelike Hammond/Leslie combinations.
Valve boost and flexibility
When digital key instruments are reviewed, criticism is often directed at their sound. 'Thin' and 'lifeless' aren't uncommon descriptions. For a Hammond, warmth and even overdrive are of the essence, however, which is why we're pleased to announce that the XK-3c features two valves that serve as preamplifiers. A 12AX7 and a 12AU7 add that typical heart-warming tube sound to your amplified output. An overdrive knob puts you in charge of the overdrive level, allowing for both screaming leads and classic rock parts. In short, this drawbar keyboard's sound is top-notch. With regards to MIDI, there are five assignable zones at your disposal, as well as two MIDI INs for the connection of a lower manual and a pedal. Live organists will be delighted by this Hammond's low weight (a mere 40.8 lbs). In the old days, a Hammond with seven built-in Leslies like this would be much harder on your back!
