The Gretsch Broadkaster is a genuine classic. Fortunately, Gretsch decided to breathe new life into the popular series. Take the BK-J403-AP shell set, for instance, a three-piece Classic Jazz configuration with a 20-inch bass drum, a 12-inch tom and a 14-inch floor tom, that is suitable for nearly any type of music as it has a wide tuning range. Thanks to its gorgeous Antique Pearl finish, this shell set takes you right back to the 1950s.

Old and new characteristics

Like the old models, the new Broadkasters have thin, 3-ply wooden shells that produce a full sound with plenty of resonance. The use of maple and poplar ensures a well-defined low end, as well as smooth mids and trebles. The set is equipped with modern Standard Build hardware, which includes a GTS tom mount that minimises contact between shell and hardware to increase the resonating capabilities of your tom. The set owes its great stability to its modern bass drum and floor tom legs.

Bearing edges and hoops

The bearing edges of the bass drum and toms have been finished by hand. Their 30-degree reverse roundover edges increase the surface contact between shell and drumhead, guaranteeing a full sound. The steel hoops are double-flanged, just like they used to be in the 1950s, but made of a more rugged material. As a beautiful finishing touch, the wooden Satin Classic Maple hoops of the bass drum have a decorative Antique Pearl inlay.
