The success story of the original Broadkaster is widely known. Legends like Art Blakey, Papa Jo Jones and Max Roach all played the classic drum kit. This three-piece BK-J403V-AP shell set is part of a new Broadkaster series, which is a modern take on the old Gretsch classic. The configuration of a 20-inch bass drum, a 12-inch tom and a 14-inch floor tom - all finished in gorgeous, vintage Antique Pearl - is referred to by Gretsch as a Classic Jazz Kit.

All the benefits of the classic

A good reissue maintains the characteristics that made the original worthy of an upgrade in the first place. That's why the new Broadkaster kits still have the same thin shells as the classic models, made of two plies of maple with a single poplar ply in between to ensure a full sound with an excellent response. Vintage hardware lends the set an authentic look. Particularly note-worthy is the rail Consolette tom holder, which allows you to slide the tom into position. The T-shaped bass drum legs and tension rods and the slim floor tom legs with their stylish diamond brackets also take you right back to the 1950s.

Bearing edges and hoops

The bearing edges of the bass drum and toms have been finished by hand. Their 30-degree reverse roundover edges increase the surface contact between shell and drumhead, guaranteeing a full sound. The steel hoops are double-flanged, just like they used to be in the 1950s, but made of a more rugged material. As a beautiful finishing touch, the wooden Satin Classic Maple hoops of the bass drum have a decorative Antique Pearl inlay.
