Gretsch Drums BK-J483-ASP Broadkaster SB Anniversary Sparkle

General

The BK-J483-ASP shell set is part of Gretsch's rejuvenated Broadkaster series, which consists of reissues of the popular classic drum kit. The three-piece set consists of an 18-inch bass drum, a 12-inch tom and a 14-inch floor tom. The bass drum is quite small, but still produces a deep, full sound thanks to its thin shell. The Anniversary Sparkle finish of the shells is an attractive salute to the days of old.

A modern update

The Broadkaster series - then and now - distinguishes itself by the relative thinness of its shells. Made of only three plies of wood (maple - poplar - maple), the shells are capable of delivering a healthy dose of resonance and an excellent response. The Standard Build hardware of the BK-J483-ASP kit is innovative. The tom, for instance, is suspended from its hoops to prevent shell contact, allowing it to resonate freely. The modern legs of the bass drum and floor tom provide the necessary stability.

A Modern Bop Kit

The configuration with an 18-inch bass drum is referred to by Gretsch as the Modern Bop Kit, an allusion to the classic status of the Broadkaster series. The white Remo bass drum head is decorated with the vintage logo, and the Classic Satin Maple hoops of the bass drum have an Anniversary Sparkle inlay. The bearing edges of the shells have been finished with a reverse roundover technique, which enhances the surface contact between shell and drumhead, resulting in a full sound.
