The Mapex Mars 446 Rock shell set with Nightwood finish is a 1-up, 1-down configuration, keeping your toms well within reach, and it has a bass drum with plenty of power and a natural sound. The Mars series has a few of the high-class components from the Saturn IV line of drum sets and delivers professional performance. This four-piece rock shell set consists of a 24-inch bass drum, a 12-inch tom, a 16-inch floor tom and a matching 14 x 6.5-inch snare drum.

Mapex Mars MA446S-BZW Rock 24 shell set Nightwood: birch shells

The shells of this black shell set are made of six plies of birch, which is a strong wood type that has a perfectly focused sound, great resonance and a clear tone. The 10 and 12-inch toms have a clear, punchy sound, while the 24-inch bass drum and 14-inch floor tom deliver a focused low end, with a great punch and plenty of body. The bass drum is fitted with isolating claw hooks with a rubber lining. This lining protects the bass drum hoops from being damaged, and ensures that the hardware does not start rattling as you play. The 12 x 8-inch tom can be attached to a cymbal stand with the included tom arm and clamp.

Matching 14 x 6.5-inch Nightwood snare drum

This beautiful rock shell set comes with a matching 14 x 6.5-inch snare drum, which has a versatile character and provides a solid, distinct sound. The bearing edges of the shells in the Mars series are called SONIClear bearing edges. These allow the drumhead to make better contact with the shell, resulting in a more consistent tuning, an enhanced tuning range and a deeper sound.
