When you hear that Yamaha has released a new product, you already know it's going to be great quality, and we can definitely confirm that in regards to this Absolute Hybrid Maple shell set. The model is based on Yamaha's flagship PHX series model, and features a new kind of shell made of two wood types. This particular pink model has a Pink Champagne Sparkle finish and chrome shell hardware. Additionally, this shell set has a fusion configuration, and thus consists of a 20-inch bass drum, two toms measuring 10 and 12 inches each and a 14-inch floor tom.

Hybrid composition

As previously mentioned, the hybrid shells consist of two different wood types. To be specific, a 7-ply shell has 6 layers of warm American maple with a layer of strong African wenge in the middle. The combination of the two woods produces a rich sound with excellent dynamic reach. Furthermore, rounded bearing edges also work to encourage optimal sound projection, as there is ideal contact between the Remo drum heads and the shells. This design also helps the shell set to instantly react to every nuance in your playing.

Yamaha Absolute Hybrid Maple: improved YESS system

Yamaha has equipped this shell set with a number of new technological details. One such addition is the patented YESS III tom mounting system. This third version of the well-known system allows the toms to freely resonate above the shells, and gives them longer sustain for a fantastic sound. Additionally, the mounting clamp has gotten a layer of rubber to further reduce vibrating hardware while you play. The entire system is lightweight, and minimally impacts the bass drum so that it, too, can resonate freely. Finally, die-cast hoops ensure a set with an open sound. All in all, this is a great shell set for advanced drummers who want to really shine.
