General

With the Evans EHSP-1-HIHAT Sensory Percussion Hi-Hat Sensor, you can add an electronic dimension to your own hi-hat without sacrificing that familiar playing feel. This sensor captures the nuances of your playing and transforms your acoustic or low-volume hi-hat into an expressive electronic instrument. You’ll retain the natural feel and rebound of real hi-hat cymbals. This is handy if you want to practise more quietly with low-volume hi-hats, but also if you want to add electronic accents to your acoustic drumming. Please note: you are purchasing one sensor, not a complete hi-hat or standalone drum kit. The required hi-hats, EVANS Portal Audio Interface and Sensory Percussion 2 Software are available separately.

Six playing zones for expressive drumming

A hi-hat part involves more than just playing open and closed. That’s why this sensor offers full open/closed control and distinguishes between six playing zones: foot pedal, edge, bow, bell tip, bell shoulder and ping. This allows different playing techniques to find their place in your electronic sound. Within Sensory Percussion, you can get started with realistic modern and vintage hi-hat presets, but it doesn’t stop there. Discover melodic and electronic sounds or add your own samples for a personalised touch. The sensor thus offers possibilities for both recognisable hi-hat parts and creative additions to your hybrid drumming, whether you’re practising, recording or performing on stage.

Compatible with your existing hi-hat

The EHSP-1-HIHAT is optimised for EVANS dB One low-volume hi-hats and is also compatible with most standard acoustic and low-volume hi-hats. The mounting is designed for standard hi-hat stands, so you can combine the sensor with your usual setup. A 12-foot (approximately 3.66 metres) 1/8-inch TRS cable and cable ties are included. To use the system, you’ll need a pair of hi-hat cymbals, as well as the EVANS Portal Audio Interface and Sensory Percussion 2 Software; these are not included. With this combination, you can use your hi-hat for quiet practice sessions with low-volume cymbals, recordings and live performances, whilst retaining the feel of real cymbals.
