Epiphone's very own Embassy bass is back! Originally released in 1963 to compete with the Thunderbird, this modernised love-note comes refined by features fit to shape a stubborn, ground-shaking character of its very own. So, the machine heads have been given a petulant 2-by-2 configuration mounted to a classic Epiphone headstock, and while the top horn of the body has also grown a bit since the original '60s version, giving this double-cut model a nicely asymmetrical finished, the Tune-O-Matic bridge and Claw tailpiece are as authentic as it gets.

The Embassy Bass: Medium C-Neck & ProBucker Bass 760 Pickups

The mahogany neck has been glued into the matching mahogany body to ensure optimum resonance and a warm foundation sound with a clear mid-range and nice, rounded trebles. The neck has also been finished with a medium C-profile for a smooth feel that sits snug in the fret hand. Meanwhile, the Embassy is home to a pair of double-coiled passive ProBucker Bass 760 pickups able to shape flexible vintage-edged tone that can be tweaked to taste using no-fuss volume and tone controls before being perfectly mixed with the blend pot.

Lekker lichte bas. Echter 2 nadelen: Snaarhoogte niet individueel afstelbaar, dus een snaar staat altijd te hoog of een andere te laag, want je kan enkel de hoogte aan de uiteinden van de bridge afstellen. 2) Pas op met snaren die een hogere spanning hebben dan gemiddeld. Ik heb geprobeerd er Fender flatwound 55's op te zetten , iets dikker dan gemiddeld. Toen heb ik de brug losgetrokken. Bleek vast te zitten met drie korte schroefjes. Blijkbaar hebben ze in China nog nooit van mechanica gehoord, want deze brug trekt de snaren onder een hoek omhoog, dus wordt niet enkel op afschuiving belast, maar ook op trekkracht. De oplossing was een paar langere en dikkere schroeven, en nu zit het weer goed, maar het was toch even schrikken, en ik heb een maatje lichter voor de snaren genomen.

Mooie bas met een eigen karakter. Dat was voor mij de reden om deze bas te kopen: hij klinkt duidelijk anders dan de bassen die ik tot nu toe heb gehad (Fender-achtigen en moderne actieve bassen). En wat dat betreft stelt hij niet teleur. Ook fijn dat hij erg licht is.

Minpunt is de afwerking: ik moest de uiteinden van de frets bijvijlen omdat ze erg scherp aanvoelden, en de topkam was te hoog. Maar sinds ik deze problemen verholpen heb speelt hij fijn.

Dus uiteindelijk een prima bas voor het geld, maar mijn exemplaar had meer werk nodig dan ik verwacht had, zelfs voor een bas in deze prijsklasse.

Super instrument. Heb deze bas nu enkele weken uitgeprobeerd en ben verbaasd over de kwaliteit en klank. Begrijp echt niet dat men deze basgitaar een instapmodel noemt want zij kan zich meten met veel andere duurdere modellen. De Embassy heeft volle en diepe tonen, is zeer licht, zeer goed bespeelbaar, blijft goed gestemd, is perfect uitgebalanceerd, degelijk gebouwd en mooi afgewerkt. Enige minpuntjes zijn dat ik de brug diende bij te stellen en de ruwe snaren die ik in de toekomst ga vervangen door gepolijste snaren. Voor dergelijke schappelijke prijs is deze gitaar een absolute aanrader.
