For those who can't stop dreaming of a 1959 Les Paul Standard of their own, Epiphone and the Gibson Custom Shop serve up a more affordable version of this classic solid-body guitar from the legendary '50s. As expected, this Inspired by Gibson model features a mahogany body and neck that have been glued together via a stable long-tenon joint, while for maximum visual impact, the body has been finished with a slice of AAA flamed maple veneer and a vintage original sheen coating. Even the neck has a 1959 Rounded Medium C carve that's based on the real thing.
The 1959 Les Paul Standard: Fully Upgraded
As befits a modern, vintage-inspired guitar, the Epiphone 1959 Les Paul Standard features several 21st century upgrades, including a stable Graphtech NuBone nut and a set of Epiphone Deluxe tuners. The ABR-1 bridge and Gibson Historic Reissue Stop Bar are classic bits of hardware, and the pair of Gibson Custombuckers have been specifically mounted to give you access to a range of familiar PAF-style sounds. So that warm and sweet tone is delivered to your amp in all of its glory, this rather affordable LP comes finished with CTS pots, Mallory condensers, '50s-style wiring and a Switchcraft 3-way pickup selector switch.

Het liefste zou ik deze gitaar met vijf sterren beoordelen, want in potentie is dit echt een heel mooie uitvoering. Maar een Epiphone in deze prijsklasse, daar verwacht je van dat die piekfijn in orde is qua afwerking. Scherpe fret einden en onregelmatige fret hoogtes, hier is totaal geen aandacht aan besteed en merk je pas op als je de actie gaat verlagen naar normale hoogte (fret buzz)
Ik heb het zelf opgelost door de fretten te vlakken maar als je zelf geen verstand hebt van dergelijk gitaar onderhoud, houd er dan rekening mee dat er nog bijkomende kosten kunnen zijn.
Nu het positieve: Het is een prachtige Les Paul, heerlijk hals profiel, Gibson Custom Buckers klinken geweldig en kosten alleen al €500, echte parelmoer inlays, gitaar nek uit één stuk, zorgt voor uitstekende sustain. Gewicht (3,7 kg) was voor mij ook een reden om voor deze Les Paul te kiezen en niet een Gibson Les Paul standard (ca 4,5kg). Al met al erg blij mee en uitstekend geleverd door Bax!
