General
1961 was a classic year for the SG. The iconic swagger of this sharp-horned, double-cut guitar represented a step away from the Gibson Les Paul. The Epiphone SG Standard '61 evokes all that vintage character, at an insanely friendly price. In fact, the slightly smaller, more subtle winged-pickguard is the only detail that reveals just how fresh-faced this model is. Otherwise, this SG is fitted with the ever-dependable SlimTaper profile neck, while a pair of Probuckers, combined with vintage CTS potentiometers and wiring, deliver that sought after, fat and versatile tone. The final and very welcome modern twist is the LockTone bridge, that thankfully stays put while re-stringing.

Even mijn bevindingen op een rijtje:
- Bouwkwaliteit: perfect afgewerkt. ik kon geen één minpuntje vinden.
- Ergonomie: zalige gitaar om op te spelen. heerlijk makkelijke hals ook.
- Afstelling: gitaar moest enkel nog gestemd worden en was metéén speelklaar. heerlijk lage actie.
- Gewicht: licht gitaartje. in tegenstelling tot andere SG's had deze totaal geen last van neckdive!
- Cleansound: zéér goeie cleansound, dynamische pickups met genoeg presence.
- Overdrivesound: naar mijn smaak te muddy en helaas enorm feedbackgevoelig bij hi-gain.
- Sustain: niet spectaculair, maar zeker voldoende (ik ben een Les Paul gewend)
Samengevat: voor de cleane spelers en classic rockers onder ons is deze Standard '61 een dikke aanrader. AC/DC all day lang! Indien je echter zwaardere metalstijlen wil gaan spelen, zou ik deze niet kopen. Want dan moet je er een set andere pickups in (laten) zetten, en dan ben je natuurlijk weer veel meer geld kwijt.
