A touch of Eddie

Eddie's influence can be found in many aspects of the EVH Wolfgang special. For starters, there's the basswood body's striking shape. With a special heel and a unique double-cut design, even the highest frets are easy to reach. This brings us to the neck, which features a compound-radius fretboard and an oiled finish that is carefully applied by hand. Furthermore, the two Wolfgang humbuckers are mounted directly onto the body, as Eddie feels they pick up the body's natural resonance better that way. Of course, the EVH branded Floyd Rose features the EVH D-Tuna system that allows you to switch to a Drop D tuning and back in the blink of an eye.

Unique electronics

Contrary to what you may expect, Eddie Van Halen actually prefers medium output humbuckers. As such, the specially-designed Wolfgang pickups deliver just the right sound – they are both exceptionally musical and responsive with biting trebles, well-defined mids and impressive bass. What's more, thanks to these medium output pickups, the Wolfgang Special is much more versatile than a guitar with high output pickups would be. From screaming leads to fat metal riffs, and form classic rock to sugar-sweet ballads, the EVH Wolfgang special does it all! Finally, the tone controls are well thought-out and the low-friction volume control allows for those famous violin effects.
