Jimi's unique sound can be attributed to the fact that he turned his guitars upside down. Jimi was left-handed but his father Al Hendrix pushed him to play with his right hand. When his father wasn't around, young Jimi, born James Marshall, would flip the string nut and the strings around on his guitar. To give the appearance of a reverse guitar, this Fender Artist Signature Strat has a 'reversed' headstock and bridge pickup. Another advantage of the reversed headstock is that the low strings are extra long so they feel very tight and it's easier to press down the higher strings.
