General

The Fender Mustang was first introduced in 1965 as an instrument for beginners, but it quickly found its way into the hands of advanced and professional musicians. Over fifty years later, this remarkable fact is celebrated with the release of the Limited Edition Shortboard Mustang. The word Shortboard has two meanings for this guitar, as it is both a reference to the short (24-inch) scale length and a nod to the sixties' surf scene. Beach-based guitarists who drenched their music in reverb were among the most avid adapters of the Fender Mustang. The ash body with Competition Stripes is also an early surf-scene reference.

Construction

The ash that was used for the body produces a well-balanced tone and is the ideal base for a natural finish. The bolt-on maple neck has a 21-fret rosewood fretboard that adds warm overtones to the overall sound. Moreover, the 24-inch scale length results in a low string tension that is perfect for starting guitarists but also for expressive blues bends. Two P-90 Black Dove single-coil pickups ensure a pure, organic sound with more body than traditional Fender single-coils.

Limited edition

This Fender Mustang is a remarkable instrument in many ways, including its finish. The natural finish really brings out the quality of the ash body, and is beautifully complemented by the dark walnut-veneer Competition Stripes. Also, the strings-through bridge with six separate saddles is truly remarkable for a Fender Mustang. Six stable Fender Deluxe machine heads adorn the back of the '70s-style headstock, while the front sports a laser-engraved Fender logo. The exclusive nature of this guitar is further enhanced by the Limited Edition engraving on the neck plate.
