General

Working alongside George Fullerton, G&L guitars is the last company that Leo Fender ever lent his unparalleled knowledge and unique designs to. Since 1979, the much-loved company has been producing upstart instruments packed with masses of character and impeccable build quality. The Tribute range still bears all of this tradition and offers long-time fans and beginner-guitarists alike, full access to models like the multi-tonal and utterly cool Fallout solid-body.

The G&L Tribute Fallout: Design

The Fallout takes its cues directly from the Leo Fender designed G&L SC-2 from 1983 - a model specifically designed for the scene of its age and a guitar that helped shape the sound of Post-Punk bands like Devo and Band of Susans. Just like the original, the Fallout has an incredibly lightweight mahogany body that can be fearlessly thrown around on stage. The maple neck has a high-gloss finish to match that of the body and 22 medium jumbo frets line the light Brazilian cherry-wood fretboard with black position dots.

Hardware, a Humbucker and a P-90

Reinforced by a G&L P-90 at the neck and a super-fat AW4470B humbucker at the bridge for all of that necessary output, the Fallout is capable of dirty, irksome riffs as well as screaming hooks. A three-way pickup selection switch is placed between the volume and push-pull tone pot that can coil-tap the humbucker for even more tonal variation while the fixed G&L Saddle Lock bridge is especially solid and comes mounted with adjustable brass string saddles, and supple and highly stable tuning is assured by a set of closed oil-bed machine heads with an 18:1 ratio, finishing a brilliantly nonchalant yet incredibly reliable and versatile guitar.

A fantastic guitar! I've been playing for over 35 years and have had quite a few guitars in that time from cheap rubbish to expensive custom builds. This is right up there in terms of playability and sound. I often end up changing many things on cheaper guitars - wiring, switches, pickups - but I have changed NOTHING on this having had it for nearly a year now.

The build quality is great, the fretwork excellent and the splittable pickups really do offer a great range of usable sounds.

Not a 'great guitar for the money', a great guitar period!
