The up-to-date tweaks of the Gibson Modern Collection SG sets a new standard while losing none of that classic, brutal style. So, this double-cut model still bears the iconic set of horns while the mahogany body has been rounded-off a little more; softening it up for enhanced playing comfort. The long tenon, set-in mahogany neck is finished with the familiar feel of a 12" rosewood fretboard, and completes a fully assured acoustic tonal foundation, while a pair of Alnico II-based humbuckers offer way more than just a vintage vibe.
The SG Standard: Wide-Ranging, Sweet Medium-Gain
The double-coiled 490T at the bridge serves the meaty tone demanded by tight riffs and fat chords while the 490R at the neck adds that rich touch of cream and refined definition. The wide range of sweet, medium-gain tone that results is smoothly navigated using the 3-way selector switch and set of volume and tone pots per pickup. Meanwhile, the tuning of this fresh-faced SG is stabilised by a lightweight aluminium Nashville Tune-O-Matic bridge and Stop Bar tailpiece, a Graph Tech nut, and a set of high-grade Grover Rotomatics machine heads. The Gibson SG Standard comes complete with a softshell case.

Even goed om te weten als je hem koopt...
Koop er geen tas of koffer bij. Die zit hier al bij en dat is een ontzettend fijne softcase.
Koop er wel een extra gitaarband bij, het liefste van leer. De mythe over de neckdives vond ik zelf altijd wel meevallen, maar met een leren band garandeer je dat hij niet zal wegzakken.
Koop ook een set nieuwe snaren en zet die er meteen op. De snaren die Gibson erop zet voordat ze deze gitaren op een lange reis naar Europa sturen, zijn niet de moeite waard. Direct nieuwe snaren opzetten dus. Verder kun je er veel meer mee dan alleen AC/DC spelen.
De SG is inprincipe nog altijd een Les Paul in vermomming. Het werkt eigenlijk voor alles.
In diverse klimaten en temperaturen blijft hij goed gestemd staan. (Op de G snaar na)
Ook in live situaties dus een enorm fijne gitaar. Het is mijn maingitaar momenteel. Maar ook als reserve kun je niet misgaan met dit model. Het doet eigenlijk alles goed.

Getest en gekocht in de winkel te Goes , goed geholpen door het personeel met een degelijk woordje uitleg over de gitaar.
Een minpuntje waar ik op voorhand van op de hoogte was is de neckdive mede omdat de body zo licht is .. wat dan weer een voordeel is.
De neckdive is ook makkelijk te verhelpen met een meer "grippy" gitaarband of het plaatsen van een gewichtje langs de binnenkant van de backplate.
Ik kan deze SG zeker aanraden , een no nonsense en vederlichte SG die Angus tonen uitschreeuwt. Niet twijfelen .. gewoon doen 🤘🏻
