The introduction of the Ibanez RG in 1987 can be seen as a milestone in the history of rock-focussed guitars. The super-sharp look, snug playing comfort and broad range sound are just as impressive today as they were back then. So it should comes as no surprise that Ibanez has breathed new life into this icon of a six-string as part of the Genesis Collection. This electric guitar has been built with pride in Japan and is an excellent pick for gigging guitarists who demand all of the aesthetics as well as the sonics.
One of the most noteworthy features of the Ibanez RG550 is the neck, which boasts a five-piece maple and walnut construction to result in fully optimised stability. The Super Wizard profile, meanwhile, combines with a twenty-four-fret maple fretboard to polish off the perfect platform for speedy solos, and the Edge tremolo bridge combines with a locking nut to support everything from subtle vibratos to wild dive-bombs without dropping tune. Capping it all off with elastic tone that can be dialled in to back up pretty much any playing style, we have a fat HSH pickup configuration, planting an alnico humbucker at the bridge and a ceramic humbucker as the neck, sandwiching an alnico single-coil in the middle.
