Golden oldies

As far as wood-types go, the TM1702 follows the tried-and-true recipe of an alder body with a maple neck - a combination that guarantees a balanced and rich core sound. In this case, the neck features a maple fretboard that gives a bit more sparkle to the trebles. Both the bridge and the pickup configuration are a clear nod to the American TE models. The tone controls, jack-plate and pickup-switch, meanwhile, reference the famous ST-style guitars. This classic styling is further reinforced by the gorgeous sunburst finish.

Modern-day performance

Of course, Ibanez wouldn't be the company they are today if they clung to the past too much. So luckily, there are plenty of modern touches to the TM7102M. For instance, there's the Fast Access Heel, which allows for a smooth transition between neck and body. Furthermore, the shape of the headstock is also no accident: on closer inspection, you'll see that the strings run from the tuners to the string nut and beyond in a straight line. Not only does that help improve tuning stability, it also makes performing string bends much easier.
