General

The JP170D-RRB is the first 7-string John Petrucci Signature guitar from Sterling with original DiMarzio pickups. This luxury model is based on the Music Man BFR JP7. It has a stunning Ruby Red Burst quilted maple top, black hardware and exactly the same pickup configuration as the original. In terms of looks, sound and playability, the Sterling JP170D-RRB comes surprisingly close to its high-end American counterparts. Its price, however, is a little bit kinder on your wallet.

Sterling JP170D-RRB: made to Petrucci's specifications

Just like the JP70, the body is made of basswood, which is light in weight and gives a balanced tone. This model, however, has a beautiful, luxurious-looking quilted maple top. The 7-string neck is made of maple and has a 24-fret rosewood fretboard. It has the characteristic JP Shield inlays and a flat 16-inch radius that is perfect for playing fast solos with effortless bends. The neck is bolted on to the body for a solid feel and great sustain.

Hardware and DiMarzio pickups

The Modern Trem, which is based on the original tremolo bridge from Music Man BFR JP7, is sunk in to the body. Thanks to its fully floating design, it has a supple feel that allows tones to bend lower as well as higher. The luxury locking machine heads keep the JP170D-RRB perfectly in tune. Finally, the LiquiFire 7 and Crunch Lab 7 humbuckers from DiMarzio are also sunk in to the body. They give this Sterling guitar a powerful, full sound that is tight and defined at high gain and crystal clear when clean.
