General
Fender usher in a new era for the electro-acoustic guitar with the Highway Series Dreadnought. Here, time-honoured tradition knits seamlessly with modern build techniques to result in an acoustic six-string that performs whether unplugged or amplified and in terms of both sound and playing comfort. The body has been built from thin slices of mahogany and the solid spruce soundboard is supported by a complex bracing structure that ensures excellent vibrational transfer from the strings through the resonant chamber. The ultra-modern yet elegant Fender Highway Dreadnought comes complete with a Fender Deluxe 1225 Gig Bag.
The Fender Highway Dreadnought: The New Way
Most electro-acoustic models will come with a piezo pickup fitted beneath the bridge, which is the point at which the strings vibrate the least, resulting in amplified sound that isn't always the best. In collaboration with Fishman, Fender have solved this problem with an exclusive Fishman Fluence pickup, specially developed for the series. This pickup sits next to the soundhole and captures the point where the strings vibrate the most, which essentially translates into balanced sound packed with full-definition dynamics. Other special details include the Contour control pot, which can be dialled up to bring in the full frequency spectrum, warming up the sound to accompany vocals. Or it can be twisted the other way to pull back the basses, enhance the mid-range and set up the sound for playing with a full band. Another nice bonus is the non-existent feedback. You can literally hold this guitar in front of the speaker and nothing will happen.
Maximum Playing Comfort
Fender have spent just as much time on the playing comfort of this progressive model as the sound. The fully chambered body is just 57mm thick, while smooth contours ease the feel beneath the forearm and a belly cut gives this instrument an immediately snug and controlled feel - especially when compared to the wide body and sharp edges of a standard dreadnought. The mahogany neck is also much thinner than normal and the rosewood fretboard has a relatively rounder 12 inch radius to increase the comfort when grabbing chords. Basically, the Fender Highway Series Dreadnought has been meticulously designed to support any guitarist across any style and in any and every situation.

Superb instrument. Beautifully made, feels great to hold and looks stunning. I've had the Fender Highway Dreadnought guitar for a few weeks now and played a couple of gigs with it. It was comfortable to play while standing up and the adjustable neck made it really simple to get just the right action on the strings. It sounds brilliant going though our Presonus AR16 desk and ANT 1000w column speakers. The controls on the guitar work smoothly, but although I would have preferred a treble/bass tone control rather than the contour control, the contour control helps produce a nice sound balance. One other thing I found a bit awkward to overcome was the low volume output from the guitar even though it has a built-in battery-powered pre-amp. I have to use an XLR lead and plug it into a microphone jack to get the volume up. This was not something I had to do with my old electro- acoustic Tanglewood but the end result is the same.
