Guild has been building dreadnoughts since the early 1960s, and the handmade D-40E Standard Pacific Sunset Burst shows what that means. This western's solid Sitka spruce top works together with African mahogany sides and back, resulting in a sound that is wide and powerful, but never dull. Bright highs, pointed mids and robust lows that have a fine projection. The scalloped Adirondack X-bracket is placed forward, making the top more responsive and further enhancing that projection. The wood is stylishly finished with a thin nitrocellulose lacquer that gives the Guild D-40E its beautiful and natural 'pacific sunset burst' gloss, and the Guild Deluxe Vintage open-gear tuning machines with ivory knobs keep the tuning stable and match the understated elegance of the nitro lacquer. Guild supplies the D-40E including a hardshell case with humidification system, so that the solid wood retains the right humidity even when travelling and the guitar remains protected!

Acoustic character, subtly amplified

Amplified, the D-40E sounds true to nature and that's thanks to the built-in L.R. Baggs Element VTC. Where a normal undersaddle pickup picks up string pressure and therefore often sounds harsh and shrill, the VTC detects the vibrations of the top. The result is an amplified sound that faithfully reproduces the warmth and balance of the acoustic sound character, even at higher volumes. You adjust the sound with the volume and tone controls subtly incorporated into the soundhole so the guitar retains that natural and minimalist look! The VTC by L.R. Baggs comes with a built-in compressor that reduces boomy tones and avoids feedback.
