General
If you want to have precise control over all your incoming and outgoing signals, the SPL Crimson is just the interface you need. This high-grade sound card has a desktop design with a lightly slanted housing, so it's easy to operate. The USB interface allows you to simultaneously record and play back six channels, and there are plenty of connectors for optimal monitoring.
The inputs of the SPL Crimson
Equipped with four analogue inputs, the Crimson is a great recording partner for your DAW. It also features two microphone inputs with a +48V phantom power supply and a low-cut filter, as well as two instrument inputs. The two balanced jack inputs at the back can be used for line-level instruments such as keyboards, while the Crimson's three rear-mounted analogue stereo inputs are suitable for monitoring. Its digital S/PDIF input can be used as a fifth and sixth recording channel, but also serves monitoring purposes.
Outputs
All of the SPL Crimson's inputs can easily be routed to outputs using the interface's clear control panel. In addition to a digital S/PDIF output, the Crimson has two balanced analogue stereo outputs for your monitors. Using the SPL interface's Artist mode, it's possible to send a different mix to the second output. The two stereo outputs are each connected to their own headphone output, which is ideal if you're working with artists who like to do their own monitoring.
Controlling the Crimson
The Crimson's VU meters, which give you a visual representation of the signal that enters the four recording inputs, take central position on the interface's control panel. Below the VU meters, you'll find a number of illuminated buttons that enable you to select inputs and audio sources, and to determine the routing for your monitors. Thanks to the converter's 24-bit/192kHz processing resolution, the SPL audio interface and monitor controller delivers tight audio. With the Crimson, you get professional quality in a sleek housing.
