This U-44 interface is the cream of the crop of Zoom's U series that you can literally hold in the palm of your hand. With so many connection possibilities and its ultra-compact size, the U-44 is sure to be just the thing a lot of mobile musicians and recording engineers are looking for. What makes the U-44 so unique is that it can be used in stand-alone mode. You can make recordings by using the integrated microphone which is augmented by a high-quality preamplifier. The microphone capsules (sold separately) are replaceable, so you can create different directional characteristics based on your audio source or environment. The U-44 interface features 48-volt phantom power for your condenser microphones and it even comes complete with Ableton Live Lite 9!

De Zoom U-44 is een prettige verrassing. Deze handzame audio-interface heeft een prima audiokwaliteit in relatie tot de prijs. Ik gebruik de U-44 vooral in combinatie met een iPad Air, soepel met elkaar via USB met elkaar verbonden. De audio-out van de U-44 heb ik vervolgens weer aangesloten op mijn hoofd audio-interface en de midi-besturing van mijn iPad is geregeld via zo'n handige widi-dongle van CME, die is aangesloten op mijn midi keyboard. De Moog-synthesizers op mijn iPad komen via deze handige opstelling probleemloos en met mooi geluid de DAW binnen, Ableton in mijn geval. En wil ik een geluidsbron naar de iPad sturen, dan kan dat via de twee aanwezige analoge audio-ins op de U-44, of via de digitale aansluiting. Kortom: een prima en ook veelzijdige aankoop!

Deze interface is een grote verrassing. De DA conversie klinkt duidelijk beter dan mijn Focusrite Scarlett. Mooi stereobeeld, goede plaatsing, je hoort de galmstaartjes. Ik ben echt verbaasd wat een goed klinkende interface dit is. Mic preamps zijn ook uitstekend in orde. Class compliant, dus zonder drivers op de mac meteen aan de slag. Als interface voor m'n iPad heb ik een avond op een setje batterijen gedraaid en ze zijn waren nog niet leeg. Aan de mac haalt 'ie z'n voeding netjes uit de computer. Volgens mij is Zoom één van de meest ondergewaardeerde merken uit de audiowereld.

Geweldig apparaat! Ik gebruik het om mijn ipad live te kunnen gebruiken als geluidsbron, via midi-in het keyboard aangesloten en de line-out gaat naar de zaalmixer. De output van mijn keyboard gaat ook de Zoom in, dus ik kan de Zoom ook als mixertje gebruiken. Geen latency, degelijke behuizing, prima controle over de gain, weegt bijna niks.
