General

Taking things back to the birth of distortion, the Electro Harmonix Ripped Speaker vintage fuzz pedal faithfully mimics the ragged sonic texture of a fifties or sixties speaker that someone's just taken a knife to. Provided with a four-way set of controls, you're invited to dial in your preferred level of fuzz using the aptly named Fuzz pot, then darken or lighten the result with the Tone pot, before tweaking the output volume - but the fun really lies in the fourth and final Rip pot.

Ripped Speaker: Modern Power & Classic Fuzz

If you want to play with the true power this little EHX fuzz box wields, then get to know the Rip. Set it to twelve o'clock and you're greeted to that pure and classic fuzz sound; push it to the right or left and more compression and gating will be applied to shape a surprising array of fuzz flavours. But before you really start getting into it, it's recommended to match the output volume with your dry signal, or push it a little further so you're assured of the full, delicious effect.

Als fuzz liefhebber en groot Link Wray fan ben ik altijd op zoek naar een net wat smeriger rafelrandje. Mijn zoektocht is voorbij! Het scheurt, bijt, verstoord en laat luisteraars oordoppen opzetten. Maar het doet het ook op een laag volume! Ideaal dus voor Link Wray fans, maar ook stonergitaristen en garagerockers zullen er blij mee zijn.
Alleen nu nog even een harde keus maken, welk fuzzpedaaltje moet er van mijn pedalboard af om plaats te maken voor dit geniale pedaal?

Ik vind dit echt een mooie toevoeging op mijn pedalboard. Was nog op zoek naar een vette distortion/ fuzz. Ik had pasgeleden al de flatiron van het zelfde merk gekocht maar die vind ik veels te clean, dit pedaal klinkt echt gemeen smerig, precies wat ik zocht. In de uiterste standen komt er alleen nog wat gekraak uit, zoals een volledig gesloopte speaker, leuk maar wat mij betreft overbodig. Alles daartussen door met de vier potmeters te stoien; volme, toon, fuzz en rip, helemaal naar eigen smaak in te stellen. Het is niet te vergelijken met een andere fuzz of duistortion, dit is een eigen geluid, daar moet je van houden en dat doe ik! (De forse prijsdaling gaf me trouwens ook het laatste zetje) Van 50's trash tot hardcore, absolute aanrader.

J'utilise cette pédale avec une épiphone casino et une gretsch 2655, les deux en P90, dans un fender 100W à transistor canal clean, pour du rock garage/psyché. Les quatre potards permettent d'obtenir des sons assez variés, de l'overdrive/boost un peu crade, au fuzz bien plein, mais aussi des distos finalement assez lisses. Le défi de cette pédale est de trouver, puis retrouver, un bon réglage du potard RIP, qui fonctionne comme un bias, avec un "neutre" à mi-chemin, qui change cependant selon la gratte (Midi sur l'épiphone, plutot 11h sur la gretsch).
J'aime surtout les sonorités overdrive foutraques, avec le tone quasi au max, fuzz et vol à11h, et Rip à 14h, juste avant ce son gated ou les notes disparaissent très vite. on obtient un son rythmique un peu Ring mod, qui réagit énormément à l'attaque sur les cordes. Pour le prix c'est une bonne pédale, pas ultra polyvalente mais largement utilisable en prenant le temps de trouver (et noter!) ses réglages. Peut-être pas idéale pour des styles de jeu très conventionnels... Pour la construction c'est du ehx, solide et pratique, la pédale est plutôt petite, pas de buzz avec une bonne alim. Sinon la pédale est arrivée bien emballée comme d'habitude avec bax.
