Teddy's Neo Tortoise guitar picks are available in various different thicknesses, this being the Medium size picks, which are 0.78 mm thick. Snark developed the synthetic material themselves to serve as a replacement for actual tortoise shells. It's both flexible and durable, and it allows for a warm, rich sound. At 0.78 mm thick, these Medium picks are great for solos, but are also thin and flexible enough for some smooth strumming. All Snark picks are laser-cut for a smooth edge, after which they are polished for a whopping 30 hours. Finally, they receive a non-slip coating to prevent them from slipping out of your hands while you're playing.
Originally, tortoise-shell picks had many advantages that made them very popular among guitarists. They offered a bright, warm sound, and they were both durable and flexible. The downside, of course, was the fact that making them took a toll on the tortoise population. As such, it's not surprising that using real tortoise shells for picks has been prohibited for many years. From the moment they were banned, people have been trying to capture their unique properties in a synthetic pick.
