The Seymour Duncan MortalCoil is an active, multi-voiced humbucker for the bridge position of your 6-string electric guitar. This pickup has been developed for modern metal, where you particularly need tight articulation, controlled bass response and consistent definition at high gain. Thanks to its high-density copper coil and optimised resistance, it responds quickly and directly, with a firm pick attack. The result: tight riffs, clear note separation and a presence that cuts through the mix, without unwanted fizz or a nasal mid-range.

Three voicings for a single bridge pickup

With the MortalCoil, you get three distinct tonal characters. Voice 1 (MC1) is uncompromisingly tight and modern, ideal for palm mutes and djent-style precision. Voice 2 delivers the recognisable, classic JB Bridge-style bite and feel that guitarists have relied on for years. Voice 3 gives you a powerful, articulate single-coil sound with enough output for modern rigs—perfect for clean parts, edge-of-breakup sounds and tightly layered multitracks. On the bridge version, Voice 3 is generated via preamp voicing.

Drop-in upgrade, smart electronics

This MortalCoil is a passive-mount pickup and is designed as a drop-in upgrade for many existing active systems. It operates on 9V or 18V (not compatible with 24V) and is compatible with other multi-voiced active pickup wiring harnesses. The audio-optimised active preamp delivers clarity, dynamic response and low distortion, whilst the efficient electronics contribute to long battery life.
