If you want to replace your passive guitar pickups with active ones, you should bear in mind that you will also have to replace the potentiometers. Contrary to what you might expect, the magnets in active pickups are extremely weak compared to those in passive pickups. Active elements therefore get their high output from the preamp that gives the signal a huge boost. However, the signal is first routed through the volume control.
